Since
September 2001, Bristol Charities has managed and run the Beehive
Centre in the Whitehall area of Bristol. This pioneering centre
caters for around 100 older people over four days each week, providing
a valuable outlet for social interaction and care services. |
|
The
centre offers ‘traditional’ activities and services
such as skittles, musical entertainment, keep fit, hairdressing
and chiropody. More diverse activities include musical therapy,
outreach visits from Bristol Zoo – complete with snakes and
spiders – visits from Guide Dogs for the Blind, clothes shows,
regular walks in St George’s Park, visiting entertainers and
talks from guest speakers. |
|
Clients
travel to the Beehive from a wide area, mostly funded by Social
Services but some independently. Based on the success of the Beehive
operation, Bristol Charities plans to roll-out its pioneering
approach to day services at a number of centres across the city.
